This is what I am proposing for the book club over the next few months - a few have changed order. They have all been recommended by two or more people that have already read them.  I will make a separate posting for each book with a photo of the book cover, reviews, and a link to the author's website if available. If you have something else that you would like to suggest or read, please let me know.

October 21 - Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

November 18 -  Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen

No meeting in December - possible lunch or dinner to celebrate holidays?

January 20    - Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

February 17 - Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman (coming out in paperback on October 26)

March 17 -
The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

April 21  -  A Secret Kept by Tatiana de Rosnay  - (if out in paperback - can always be moved to another month)

May 19
-  I'd Know You Anywhere: A Novel by Laura Lippman

Here's a book recommendation from a member of our club.  It sounds great.

Not enough people here to answer survey

I will most likely send the questions for our survey out through e-mail.  I would appreciate it if everyone would take the time to answer them honestly.  I don't want to do it during the October meeting, because that will be a celebration of our years work.  I will try to send it out during the next week.  Thanks so much.

Not much to be said about September book

We had a small crowd last night, but all agreed that we did not enjoy the book.  The words used to describe it were rambling, unusual, stupid, and wordy.  It really didn't make a lot of sense, and didn't appear to try to answer the question that it posed - divine intervention or coincidence?  It was a mess, and we questioned what criteria is used to win a Pulitzer Prize.  I started the book Olive Kitteridge, which is also a Pulitzer Prize winner, but I don't know if I will bother finishing it.  There are too many other books to read that sound a lot better.

I think the highlight of the evening was getting a chance to see the kitties.  They are absolutely adorable and Grace, the mom, was very nice about letting us look at them and hold them.  I can't stop playing with them or just sitting there watching them.  They are starting to develop personalities now, and are trying to walk.  They are balancing on the legs, but are still rather wobbly.  They can move a few steps at a time, and are making great progress.

What is your one word to describe our book club selection this month?  It was voted one of the top 100 books, and won a Pulitzer Prize.  What do you think?

I like to think that I can't be described in a short paragraph.  Some adjectives:  curious, caring, kind, generous, excitable, motivated, emotional, fun, organized. What do you think?    Claire
