I think that filling out the forms for the books you are suggesting is a good idea because it gives everyone a reminder of what the book is about, etc. after they get home and start to decide. After hearing about 10 books or so, it is easy to get them mixed up, so a piece of paper about it will be a good reference. You do not have to have a lot of information on the form. Just enough for everyone to get a general idea if it sounds interesting to them.
You do not have to have read the book. Most likely it will be one that you heard about that sounded good and you would like to read it. I think most of our selections have been this way.
If you want to suggest a book, and I would encourage more than one book if possible, we will allow time for a short presentation in April. Please bring a copy of the book if you have it. Then each person will get the form you prepared about that book to take home and process. We will vote at the May meeting and aim for picking books for June through May of the next year. That would be 10 books. We may not be able to do that the first time we try this, but we have to start somewhere.
If you have already filled out the forms in anticipation of the November meeting, then you are that much ahead of the group. Just bring those forms in April. If you don't want to participate in the recommending process, you don't have to. If you do want to participate, you have 5 months to think about a couple of books that you think we might enjoy. I think that everyone would like it if the book was a paperback.
Also, it would be nice if we can try to read various genres - fiction, non-fiction, mystery, classic, young adult?, biography, historical fiction, etc. I am just trying to find a way for us to pick books that appeal to our group more than the last few have. It seems like we pick them rather randomly and some have not been satisfying. I know everyone will not like every book, but maybe this way we can get a little closer to the mark. I hope that this meets with everyone's approval. We can still change it or discuss it at the November meeting. As always, I am open for suggestions. I am attaching the form again in case you don't have it. Thanks so much. Claire
