Sarah Chidgey Hughes

I was planning to update the blog with all of the news that has been happening lately when something very sad happened.  Many of you will know Sarah from Meadow Wood Elementary.  I consider her one of the best, if not the best teacher they have ever had.  She was balanced, and by that, I mean she made teaching fun while also showing, teaching, and expecting respect from her students.  The kids loved her and so did the parents.  I didn't know her well, but as a "teacher without a team - which the librarian always is" I would usually sit with the third grade team and had time to visit with Sarah.  She was always welcoming and spoke the truth.  I am a strong believer in the truth, (and sometimes it can be hard to find these days) and I appreciated it from her on all levels.

I left Meadow Wood in 2009, so I didn't find out the news about Sarah until September of 2010.  She had been diagnosed with cancer and was posting on a blog.  I checked it out and decided to start at the very beginning, catchup, and follow it each day.  It was one of the ways I would start my morning.  I looked forward to seeing her smiling face, her positive message, and her complete faith.  I was amazed at how she could continue to inspire with her message of hope.  I appreciated her lessons in faith and her suggestions for prayer.  I was thrilled to find out that she found Eric and that they were married.  I hoped and prayed so hard that she would be able to live a long, happy life with him and continue to teach and inspire children at MWE.

If you have been following the blog, you know that Sarah passed away yesterday morning.  It has been a very sad week knowing that the news was going to come, but not knowing when.  I pray that she had a chance to know the impact she had on other's lives - strangers, friends, co-workers, etc.

She is at peace now, and the world as we know it will have a large void in it for years to come.  I pray for her husband and family and that they can take comfort in the fact that she lived a beautiful life and inspired and taught others until the day she left this world.  I would highly recommend for anyone to read the story of Sarah Chidgey Hughes from start to finish.  You will be glad that you did and I know that you will come away a better person.  My husband and I did.  Her blog can be found at:  sarahchidgey.blogspot.com.  You will have to click all the way down to the beginning in 2010, but it will be worth every minute that you spend reading and watching this terrific person.  Rest in peace Sarah.

I would like to think that I can't be described in a short paragraph.  Some adjectives that come to mind:  curious, caring, kind, generous, excitable, motivated, emotional, fun, organized. What do you think?    Claire
