I would like someone that knows how to crochet (I think Cheri J. volunteered, but I'm not sure) to show us how to do a single and double crochet (VERY EASY TO DO) so that we can make some of the blankets featured in the post dated December 21, 2010. Just scroll down to that post. These blankets will be very easy to make, they are one single piece of fleece - so they will be cheaper and cooler.
Again I would like to stress that you do not have to know how to sew, knit, or crochet to attend meetings or contribute to our group. You just have to have the desire to help those less fortunate than yourself. We have blankets that can be easily tied by hand, there are blankets that only require a straight stitch around four edges of a square piece of material (if you want to sew), we will learn how to do the easy crochet edged fleece blanket, and I can teach anyone how to knit a scarf using the basic knit stitch that I taught myself out of a book. You can also donate money or material, so there is really no reason not to participate :) Please, please get involved with this and help someone in need. There are so many people that need help at the present moment and we are fortunate enough to be able to help them.
We will also discuss our book Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. If you didn't read the book, that is OK too. Just come and listen to an interesting discussion and decide if it sounds like something that you might want to read later. Also, if you have any other books to suggest for our list, we would love to hear them.
So in summary, this seems like the best group to be in! You don't have to have any particular crafting skills, and you don't even have to read the book!! Just come and enjoy the friendship of other women, maybe learn how to make a blanket over the next few months, and listen and learn about an interesting book. It's a win-win situation. You even get to see most of the Landrum remodeling job. The big work is finished, but I haven't finished all of the decorating that I want to do. Some of it is done, some of the things are on the way, and some of them will have to wait a while. Overall, I think it looks great! We are very pleased.
I hope everyone will come to the March meeting. Please bring someone if you would like to. Come and celebrate the friendship of women and the wonderful feeling of helping others. Have a great month! Enjoy this beautiful sunshine!
