Here's Susan loading up one of SIX carts of blankets that we delivered to children at Texas Children's Hospital. It was the most rewarding, fulfilling day! The joy on the children's faces, and the parent's faces, when receiving an unexpected, handmade item for them to keep was priceless!! Hopefully it helps their struggle a little and calms their nerves. Hug your family and friends and be grateful for their well-being.

Notes from Thursday's Meeting

I think we are updated and ready to go. As usual, I will send out notes bcc just to protect your e-mail address privacy. I have not figured out how to do that on my phone, so when I send notes from there it publishes everyone's address. Since we all know each other, it probably doesn't matter, but I'm trying to avoid those long lists of people's addresses that sometimes get passed on.  The book for April 19, is on the website under Book Club Blog. It is very good and I think we can get a good discussion out of it. From the feedback I have gotten, I think we may have tried to tackle a little too much trying to learn how to crochet squares, etc. It was difficult and since we had a few members missing due to spring break, I think we should do what we wanted to do in the first place... make crochet edgings on blankets. I still think that everyone wants to know the names and steps of the actual stitches they are doing, so I have another, easier proposal. In April, (19) please bring your hook, your yarn, and bring a new piece of fleece that is cut and ready to go. We will all learn how to do the basic foundation stitch (which is a single crochet) and the chain stitch. We will learn the proper terms of grab and yarn over. I am going to try to figure out how to explain that and post it on the website today.

At the end of April meeting, I am thinking that everyone should practice those stitches over and over until the May meeting. Make sure you understand them and write it down or refer to the website if you need to. Make sure you can do a correct single crochet, foundation stitch, chain stitch, yarn over, and grab when you come to the May meeting (I'm feeling like a teacher giving homework). In May, we can learn the double crochet and the slip stitch. With these two stitches, you can do the ruffly border and many others. Practice that for the month of May into June. Then in June, we can learn half double crochet if you are interested. That is all and more than you need to know to make beautiful borders.

We have our painting project coming up soon. It will be April 24. It is truly a lot of fun!! If you are planning to participate, you will need a 16 x 20 inch canvas, a couple of small paintbrushes (I'll try to get sizes - I'm not sure) or if everyone wants me to, I can get the supplies and you can reimburse me. What we really need are easels. Judy has one, I think I can get one, and I will check around and see what I can do. They had the small tabletop ones and that is all we need.

So far, from the numbers I have, we have turned in 50 blankets to Project Linus!! That means we should more than meet our goal of 100 to them. We did also set a goal of 50 to the Nursing Home Project. All of the material I prepared has been claimed, so I am going to try to do some more this afternoon and evening. I would like to get all of the donated material distributed to everyone. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I can't believe that I have not posted some type of news in almost a month and a half.  There has been so much going on that I don't really know where to start.  I think that most of us that have been attending the meetings know most of the news about Averie's visit, Diane's surgery, our decision to start crochet lessons from the start, not picking a new book for March (because we didn't read it last month), all the work we are doing for Project Linus, my need to get the solid fleece out of my house, Sherry J. learning to "tack" a quilt, etc. etc.

We have had a very eventful 2012 so far.  I will update the Book Blog and post the Crochet website later this evening.  Cheri J. is really looking forward to our first lesson.  She sounds very excited.

Martha and I are going to Pinot's Palette tomorrow to start on our Masterpieces.  I hope that everyone will get a chance to experience this soon.  It sounds like so much fun. After that I am headed to JoAnn's for more "crafting" supplies

I have also been very busy making things.  I have halfway turned the exercise room into a craft room/exercise room/sewing room.  I am having so much fun painting, gluing, taping, cutting material and paper, and pinning on Pinterest.  You will see one of my projects when you come Thursday evening.  I am keeping it a surprise until you get here.  I know you guys would love Pinterest if you tried.  It makes you feel like you are very creative.

I made two presents for my mom and gave them to her today.  She was delighted to receive handmade presents and I felt like a schoolgirl bringing my mom a gift that I made.  It was a fun birthday for her.

I hope to see all of you Thursday. All you need to do is bring yourself.  Cheri has all of the things we need for our lesson.  I hope all of you are planning to take some solid fleece home with you.

I would like to think that I can't be described in a short paragraph.  Some adjectives that come to mind:  curious, caring, kind, generous, excitable, motivated, emotional, fun, organized. What do you think?    Claire
