Blanket delivery to my house

7/29/2010

I am receiving so many messages about people wanting to deliver blankets to my house this week or next.  We have lots of company now - kids and pets - and then Averie is going to stay an extra week, so it is not the greatest time to try to deliver things.  We are in and out all the time.  We are also having our front door refinished, so we have a giant piece of plywood covering the front door.  Everyone has to go through the gate and into the back.

Hopefully everyone can wait until the August meeting to deliver the blankets.  My closet is pretty full at the moment anyway, and I will have to rearrange to get more in there.  I think I will pile them high in the living room on the night of the meeting so that everyone can see just how well we have done :o)

If this doesn't work for you, we will have to just keep trying to find a date that works.  It will probably have to be around the middle of August.

I am so thrilled that we have this many items to donate.  Star of Hope is going to be blown away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blanket closet now has MORE blankets than kits or unmade blankets.  If I am figuring things out correctly, and the amount of blankets that have been made and not turned in yet is accurate, we will meet our goal of 50 or more blankets for November.  If possible, it would be nice if they could all be turned in by the middle or end of September.  That way I can get things organized and packed.  Remember, we already donated almost 30 items earlier in the year, so we have all been very productive.  This is in addition to the baby hats and small blankets that the knitters are donating to the hospital!

Please consider going with me to the Star of Hope Transitional Center in November to donate these blankets (and I have some clothes and books also).  It will fill your heart with pleasure, and you will be extremely proud to be part of this wonderful group.  We can discuss a date at the August or September meetings.

I have to say that I really missed not meeting with everyone this month.  I know that everyone was very busy, traveling, or taking care of family, but it will be nice to get back into a somewhat regular routine in August.  I am also VERY tired of this weather.

Averie is coming to stay another week with us in August, so we are thrilled.  I will have to get busy soon and start planning activities.

Our group will have lots of things to catch up on, so please try to attend the August meeting.  Also, I thought it would be nice to plan on members trying to bring someone new to the September meeting.  I know that everyone won't be able to find someone that is interested :o), but hopefully some of us can.  I think most people would love to be involved with such a wonderful group of women, if they knew that we existed.  If we do this at the September meeting, it gives everyone plenty of time to find someone.

I have been very busy this month taking my mom to various doctors-- trying to get her set up with new doctors in town--and trying to get some health issues corrected.  So far, we have been doing a wonderful job.  She has been holding up well and receiving great news from the doctors.  She will have a few procedures done in the near future, but they are all to improve her quality of life, and she is very excited about them.  I have truly enjoyed having her in Houston and being able to spend so much time with her.  It is truly a blessing.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

I am enjoying the book.  It is a slow, comfortable read.  Not a lot of action in it, but I keep feeling something is going to happen soon that will change the story.

I am getting great comments about the Kindle.  I don't want or need one now, but if I did get one, I would hold out for the larger one.  I was thinking about it for my mom because it has text to speech and you can adjust the font, but I found something even easier for her to use.

Lots of lazy, summer days lately--good for enjoying all of this rain!!!

Finally - the books have arrived!

Yeah!  They came today.   Now I can start reading and making yogurt!

I can't believe that I am going to ask this, but does anyone in this group have a Kindle?  I am looking at all of the upgrades they have made on the new one, and wondering if it wouldn't be something nice to fit into a purse.  I am taking my mom to several doctors this week, and I am thinking that maybe that would be easier to carry than a book.  I am also noticing that the price to buy the Kindle version of a book is much lower than paperbacks or hardbacks.  The problem with that is you can't share them when you are finished with them, or donate them.  I never was interested in owning one, but I am just curious.  I know a couple of people that have them and really like them.  What do you think?

I also noticed that they will read aloud to you, and I was wondering if that was something my mom might be interested in.  I think you can adjust the font size also.
Anyone have any info to share?

It wasn't the books!

I opened the box late last evening, and it was the granite products that I ordered for the kitchen counters.  I didn't even look at the return address and just assumed it was the books.  Oh well, I guess I will have to wait a few more days.

Have a great weekend!

Books arrived from Amazon

I am getting ready to open the box that arrived from  Amazon today.  It should have all of the books that we are reading for our book club from August through January.  I am so excited to get them.  Also, it should have my yogurt maker in it.  I can't wait to start making homemade yogurt again!  I made it years ago, and it will be sugar and preservative free!  Completely healthy!

Our biggest surprise was that Dr. Cheng returned from her trip to China and it was our night for massages.  With an MRI scheduled for my neck and shoulders Monday, I was totally ready for a massage to relieve the pain.  I have been walking around like a zombie for 3 days on these muscle relaxers and will not take another one.  What a horrible experience!  Anyway, the massage was great.  She brought us some tea and a poultice of healthy herbs from China.

I received my stamped cross stitch today and will try to start that one over the weekend.  I finished the first bird cage cover this evening, so it has been a productive day.  My mom and I each finished a blanket also, so the numbers continue to add up on the blankets that we will be able to donate to Star of Hope.

Think I may have figured it out

I took my cross stitch over to my mom's and I think she was able to explain it in a way that I could understand.  It isn't going to be as easy as I thought, because I got the counted cross stitch.  I went back online today and found a beginner's pattern in stamped cross stitch.  That may be a little easier, but either way, I am going to try to get started on it this week.

I have been cutting a few more blankets in case we have anyone else that wants to tie them.  We are getting very close to meeting our goal, so I will be asking everyone to turn in their blankets by the end of September if possible.  If anyone wants to continue making them, that is OK too.  They need as many as we can furnish.

I am enjoying the lazy days of July.  I'm glad it is raining, but am getting a little tired of it.  Hope all of you are having a grand July and look forward to seeing you in August.

Need help with Cross Stitch

Well, it was supposed to be easy.  I ordered the beginner's kit (several of them), and everything was supposed to be included.  The pattern, thread, and cloth are included, but the instructions leave much to be desired.  I have a pretty good idea how to cross stitch once I get started, but they don't give you any idea of how to get started.  Some of the patterns are on such small cloth that I don't know if I will even be able to see how to do it!  Does anyone know how to cross stitch?  Would you be willing to show me?  I don't want it to be complicated, and I feel like I am pretty good at understanding things, but these directions just are not clear enough.  I was so disappointed.  I was eager to start on one of them.  I guess I will wait for help.

I would like to think that I can't be described in a short paragraph.  Some adjectives that come to mind:  curious, caring, kind, generous, excitable, motivated, emotional, fun, organized. What do you think?    Claire
