Sherry J. puts us over the 50 mark

We now have 52 blankets in the closet.  I am expecting more and am going to ask that the deadline be October 15.  This way we have time to count, sort, and get them ready for the big celebration on the 21st (see invitation below).  I hope everyone is planning to come.  Please, if at all possible, try to get all blankets delivered by October 15.  If you can't deliver them, I will be happy to pick them up.

I sent Star of Hope an invitation this morning, so hopefully Betty will be able to attend in October also.  I know that she would love to meet the people behind the donations.

Can't post kitty videos on this website

Apparently Flip Video and Weebly websites don't have an "agreement," so I can not post the cute kitty videos on this website.  I will send another one through e-mail as soon as all eyes are open.  That looks like it might be by tomorrow.  They are adorable!!

Kittens opening eyes!

9/20/2010

What a wonderful adventure this has been.  I am so non wavering in my position to have animals neutered and spayed, that I thought I would never have this experience.  We still wouldn't have if we hadn't rescued a pregnant kitten/cat.  We took "him" to be neutered and found out "she" was pregnant.  It has been marvelous watching the changes each day in these beautiful kittens.

Three opened their eyes yesterday, but two are still working on it.  Two are trying to stand on their legs, but it is a struggle.  Their ears are loosening up from their heads, so they will be able to hear better soon.  They have even started to try to play with each other this morning, but they are so uncoordinated that they just tumble over.  I think I heard one practicing how to hiss!

The most surprising thing to me is their feet.  If you noticed in the earlier video or photos, they just had pink flat skin at the end of their legs.  Over the last few days, these have developed into paws and they are even getting little paw bumps on the bottom of their feet.  They have little fingernails, but they can not retract them yet, so they don't have any control over them.

Their mother has been fabulous.  She protects them when they cry, but she lets me pick them up and play with them all the time.  I hope we are building a strong bond of trust.  I am trying to make another video, but I am waiting until all eyes are open.  They are so cute and sweet!  I think they will be developing personalities soon.  I can see a little bit in the girl and the larger gray male, but mostly they are still very helpless and dependent on mom.

Can't wait to see all of you at the meeting Thursday.  We have so many things to talk about and so many things to celebrate!

News for September meeting

9/15/2010

We will meet our 50 blanket goal at the September meeting.  We have 48 in the closet and Sherry J. has 3 to turn in to make us go over the 50 mark.  And to think that at the beginning of the year she didn't think she could make the blankets!  I think she made at least 6 of them.  We also have others that will turn in blankets, so I think we will be closer to 60.

If it is OK with everyone, I would like to make the October meeting a little more special than usual.  I would like for everyone to think about someone that they could bring to the meeting-- just to introduce them to our group and see what we do.  There is no commitment on their part.  I will have door prizes, and maybe a few other surprises.  The date of the meeting is Thursday, October 21, 2010.

If possible, I would like everyone on the mailing list to make the effort to come to this meeting.  I know several of you have children, other responsibilities, etc., but this is just one evening during the entire year.  We would all love to meet everyone that has contributed blankets, money, or material.  PLEASE, PLEASE mark this date on your calendar and make every effort to stop by - even if it is for only an hour.

All the people that have said that they are really interested and want to be supportive, but can't find the time to come regularly, PLEASE try to find the time for this October meeting.  I am asking this far in advance in hopes that all will be able to mark it on their calendar and attend. We will have all of the blankets, scarves, and hats out for display (except for the 100 hats that have already been donated).  Plus, you will get to see baby kitties as an extra bonus!!

At the September meeting, we also need to discuss the items that we didn't get around to in August.  See the posting on August 12, 2010.  This would also be a great time to discuss anything else you have questions about or to offer any suggestions.  We are getting ready to go into our second year, and I am so excited that we have been so successful.

Here are a few photos of the kitties.  They were born on Labor Day (how appropriate).  Their eyes are still closed and they just squirm around and can't walk yet.  I'm sure they will be very active soon.We have 4 males and 1 female.  There are two silver/gray ones, one that looks like our Charlie - a Norwegian Forest Cat(he's fixed and is not the father), and two dark brown/black tabbies (one more striped than the other).  The female has a beautiful caramel colored face, and one of the males has a Zorro mask around his eyes.  They all have white paws like mom.

Boy, I wish I had a private room.

I would like to think that I can't be described in a short paragraph.  Some adjectives that come to mind:  curious, caring, kind, generous, excitable, motivated, emotional, fun, organized. What do you think?    Claire
