Minutes from November 2001 meeting

_ This is a summary of our meeting last week:

December Dinner - We will have a potluck dinner at my house on December 15. This is what I remember people saying they would bring. Please let me know what you plan to bring.
Claire - meat
Rachael - Cous cous
Sherry J. - Salad
Amy S. - Dessert - tart

That is all I remember - also in order for faster clean-up, maybe someone can bring nice paper/plastic plates, etc. There will be more information on this as the time gets closer. I would love for everyone that is receiving this message to try to come. If you donated money, we would love to thank you and have you meet the ladies that made all of the blankets, and if you made blankets, we would love for you to meet the donors. If you are not usually able to make evening meetings, please try to make this a priority so that everyone can meet everyone involved.

January Book Selection - Secret Daughter - more information will be posted on website under Book Club Blog

As far as future book selections go for the book club, since nothing was decided perhaps someone else needs to offer a plan.

If you brought something Thursday evening, please send me your recipes. We had great food at the meeting. Everyone is asking for them and I have started a web page for recipes. So far, Cheri is the only one that sent hers in.

The Project Linus meeting that we attend on a Thursday morning is full for the moment. We will not be able to bring any more than the 6 people that came last time. If there are more people that would like to help out, or if these people want to help out on another day, I am willing to have a morning meeting at my house once a month. I am only willing to do this if I have a committed group of people that will attend each month. It is a great way to give them some extra help and to get together a little more often. We have several people that have difficulty attending our Thursday evening meetings. Please let me know if you are interested. I would be thinking about starting it in February 2012.

We have a great new page on the website called Crochet Borders. I have taken photos of the ones I know and will try to write directions that make sense. If you have any others you would like to share, please send me photos and directions. Everyone seems to love learning something new and Project Linus loved the fact that our blankets had nice, creative borders. It sets us apart from the standard fleece blanket.

Please make sure that you know how to make the correct foundation stitch on the blanket (the one that goes in the holes) before you go on to the borders. If you have questions, or are not sure, please ask me or anyone in the group. Everyone is happy to help, and it is SO EASY to do. We really want to turn in a quality product.

I think that is it for now. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Week. Thanks so much for all of your help. Claire

Meeting This Thursday

_
Our meeting is this Thursday, November 17. Amy is bringing a surprise for us, and I won't say anymore about that because I don't want to give it away.

We need to decide on the restaurant for December or I have a second option. The movie, Sarah's Key is coming out at the end of November and I have it on my Netflix list. If you want to, we can just get together and watch the movie at my house and have a movie night. I think everyone loved that book.

If you would rather go to dinner, we can do that and watch Sarah's Key another time. Just a suggestion.

If you are making an unusual border or something different than we have on the website, please bring it over and let me take a photo of it. I will also need instructions about what you did to make it look that way. See you Thursday!!!

Happy Birthday this month to Cindy Lawson on the 17th and Regina Schiano on the 25th!!

Visit to Project Linus this week

We attended our second Project Linus meeting yesterday.  We had six of our members (Amy, Diane, Martha, Susan, Mom, and me) and we had a great time.  We tacked quilts and learned about more of the things that Project Linus does.  We also learned about a new program they have where you earn charms for a charm bracelet by making blankets, quilts, cutting material, etc.   We also saw some of the most adorable quilts during show and tell.

We donated the rest of our blankets for 2011 and they showed several of them during show and tell.  There were many positive comments on our beautiful blankets and borders.  I think they like the "extra touch."   I returned with more free fleece.  I have enough to make 30 blankets.  You may pick it up at the November meeting.  We are finished with turning in blankets until January, so don't worry about bringing anything back to me until then.

I think we have many reasons to be proud of our group.  109 to be exact.  That is how many blankets we made and donated this year.  Twenty went to the nursing homes and the rest went to Project Linus.  What a great year!!

We plan on attending the December meeting also.  They meet on the second Thursday of the month around 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning.  They serve lunch.  In December everyone brings "finger foods," so if you plan to attend, you will need to bring a finger food.

We also need to decide at our November meeting (this Thursday, the 17th) where we want to have our December dinner.   Hope to see you Thursday.

Santa with his blankets and goodies

This is the man (his wife owns Quilter's Emporium) that will be delivering the nursing home blankets that we made this year.

He told Tanya and I about the smaller nursing homes that they visit that are located out in the countryside. They don't have a lot of visitors and there are many lonely people living in the various ones that they visit. They were delighted with all of the goodies that we donated along with about 20 blankets. He told us about a very poor nursing home that has about 40 residents.

They sound like they don't get much of anything, so I am proposing that we adopt that nursing home and aim for 40 blankets for them next December. We made 20 in one month after hearing about their need, so I think 40 for the entire year is an achievable goal. These are very simple to make and this would be an additional goal to the Project Linus blankets. We can talk about it at our meeting on Thursday, November 17.

I would like to think that I can't be described in a short paragraph.  Some adjectives that come to mind:  curious, caring, kind, generous, excitable, motivated, emotional, fun, organized. What do you think?    Claire
